Revenue Engineering builds the platform that measures how customers use Datadog and turns that measurement into usage and cost data they can act on. Every product Datadog ships is metered here. Every customer who wants to see which team, service, or business unit drove their usage sees it through this layer.

As a Staff Product Manager for Metering and Cost Attribution, you will own product direction for that platform. You will set the standard for how usage is measured, attributed, and presented across Datadog.

The role starts with tagging: the mechanism customers use to attribute usage to owners inside their organization, and the foundation that cost allocation, chargeback, quotas, and governance build on. From there you will shape the metering capabilities that new pricing and packaging models draw on, and extend the platform's speed and scale as Datadog's portfolio grows. Over time you will own the vision and roadmap for a usage platform used by every team at Datadog and relied on by every customer.

The usage layer is the system of record for consumption, and it is what billing draws from. What you own is the path from usage events to billable output, along with the consumption models, cost attribution, and usage analytics that customers and their finance teams use to understand their spend. You will partner closely with the billing platform team across that boundary.

Usage and cost attribution reach across a broad portfolio of billable metrics, several regions, and customers organized into parent and child organizations and reseller hierarchies, and they surface in units and in dollars, in-app, through the API, and in agentic workflows. Designing for that range means making deliberate choices about granularity, timeliness, and flexibility, and holding those choices steady across the many teams that build on them.

This is a highly visible individual contributor role spanning several engineering teams, every product vertical that emits billable telemetry, and partners in Sales, Support, and Finance.

What You'll Do:

Set product direction for metering and attribution by defining the problems and outcomes that matter from usage events through billable output, holding a multi-quarter view of how the platform should evolve, and collaborating with multiple engineering teams to sequence work into phases that deliver clear customer value along the way.

Own the tagging model as a customer-facing product, giving customers a consistent way to define tags across every product, translating those tags into granular usage and cost breakdowns wherever they surface, and designing how customers adjust and reconstruct attribution when their tagging changes.

Define the metering and rating capabilities that pricing and packaging depend on, working ahead of launches on usage aggregation, unit definitions, commitments, included usage, and overage, so that the metering platform stays ahead of Datadog's commercial needs.

Act as the subject matter expert for metering and cost attribution across Datadog, setting the standard that product verticals build against when they bring a new SKU into usage attribution, aligning engineering, Cloud Cost Management, Support, Sales, and Finance on a single cost allocation model, and mentoring product managers taking on metering work in their own areas.

Own the quality standard for usage data, translating what customers need in accuracy, timeliness, and auditability into product requirements and service objectives, keeping measured usage, attribution, and billing consistent with one another, and producing the sizing and impact analysis that engineering leadership and pricing partners need to resource the work.

Build agentic capabilities on top of usage, surfacing an unexpected change in consumption early, explaining which teams and services drove it, and recommending what the customer can do next. Own the data contracts and interfaces that let agents across Datadog reason about usage.

Anticipate market movement in cost allocation and cost governance, tracking how FinOps practice, cloud provider primitives, and specialist vendors are evolving, shaping Datadog's investment in response, and engaging customers directly through preview programs, design partnerships, and industry forums.

Who You Are:

A strong systems thinker: you can follow cause and effect from telemetry intake through metering, aggregation, attribution, and the bill, you reason about unit economics and cost-to-serve alongside customer experience, and you hold the throughline as scope evolves across quarters.

Fluent in data models and pipelines: you are at home in the concepts that usage data depends on, including event pipelines, usage aggregation, cardinality, deduplication, backfills, and processing latency, and you understand how they shape what a customer can be shown.

A cross-org synthesizer: you read across engineering teams, Support, Sales, Finance, and product verticals, and turn diffuse signals into a defensible product position.

Rigorous about quality: you treat accuracy in usage and cost data as a product standard you personally own, and you know how to balance investment in quality with new capability.

Collaborative and opinionated: you build trust quickly with engineers, PM peers, designers, and commercial partners, you influence senior stakeholders without direct authority, and you adapt when new evidence emerges.

Experienced in product management: you have 8+ years of Product Management experience, or a track record showing Staff-level capabilities in related software roles, with significant ownership of complex technical products. You are comfortable operating with ambiguity and breadth in platform work where the scope shapes itself over multiple quarters.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have:

Experience with high-cardinality telemetry and the cost and pricing tradeoffs it creates.

Experience with usage-based or consumpt
